Dear Parents of Year 6,
This year, we are building on our independent learning skills and are beginning to take on more responsibilities around the school as 'reliability ambassadors'. We are also embedding the understanding that mistakes are powerful and that they are the key to making excellent progress in all that we do. As a class, we have a fruit bowl which the children are welcome to help themselves to at break times. If you would like to contribute to this fruit bowl, please bring in apples, bananas or small oranges.
PE
PE is on Mondays and the children can come to school wearing their school PE kit (trainers, white shirt, navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a navy hoodie or sweat top with no logos).
Homework
All homework will be recorded in the children's homework books that it is clear what needs to be completed during the week.
Reading - it is expected that the children read for at least 30 minutes a day, five times a week and that this is recorded in their reading record (along with the pages that have been read). Reading can be done as one 30 minute session or multiple shorter sessions. Reading records should be brought into school every day and they will be checked regularly to ensure that the children are building a consistent reading habit which will support all areas of their academic learning.
Spellings - we are trialling a new spelling system (Spelling Shed) so that spellings can either be learned through online games or by using pen and paper. Spellings will be set on a Monday and tested on a Friday. There is no set expectation for how many times the children practice their spellings each week but it is expected that they will learn how to spell all of the words which are set.
Times Tables Rock Stars - regular TTRS sessions should be done at home so that the children speed up their recall of times tables which they can then apply to reasoning and problem solving questions.
